Confucius Institute at the University of Maryland (http://www.international.umd.edu/cim)

The Confucius Institute at Maryland (CIM), jointly established by the Chinese Ministry of Education and the Institute for Global Chinese Affairs (IGCA) at the University of Maryland, is the first Chinese language and culture school in the U.S. co-sponsored by the Chinese central government. CIM serves as the U.S. branch of the Confucius Institute under China's National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Headquartered in China, the Confucius Institute seeks to support and foster teaching of Chinese language and culture internationally through affiliated Confucius Institutes. Building on existing campus strength in academic resources as well as its parent institute's expertise in Chinese language teaching, CIM strives to advance Chinese literacy of the communities in east coast of the U.S., especially greater Washington DC area, and promote educational and cultural exchange between the U.S. and China.
